A song from JAY-Z's recently released album 4:44 appears to be dedicated to Beyoncé, his wife and the mother of his three children.
The new father of twins discusses the couple's nearly 15-year romance in the fifth song, "4:44," from the rapper's fourteenth studio album and thirteenth solo album. New information about their affair is revealed by the reflective lyrics, which also reference their newborn twins and confess to the infidelity his wife originally exposed on Lemonade.
"Took for my child to be born / See through a woman's eyes / Took for these natural twins to believe in miracles / Took me too long for this song / I don't deserve you," the 47-year-old JAY-Z declares. "I apologize often womanize."
The 35-year-old singer gave birth to twins, a source told PEOPLE a few weeks ago. The newborns' names and sexes have not yet been revealed.
The rapper, who was just inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, also used the pronouns "children" to refer to the loss of children.
"I apologize for all the stillborns / I've seen the innocence / Leave your eyes / I still mourn this death / 'Cus I wasn't pressing / Your body wouldn't accept it," he adds.
JAY-Z initially made reference to a miscarriage in the song "Glory," which was released two days after the birth of his daughter Blue Ivy Carter, in 2012. Then, in her 2013 HBO documentary, Life Is But a Dream, Beyoncé revealed details of a miscarriage that occurred before to the birth of Blue.
JAY-Z acknowledges that he hasn't always been faithful in "4:44," which also makes references to the highs and lows of their relationship.
And I'm not even sure what I would do if my kids found out. If they didn't look at me the same way, I would most likely die in shame. "You did what with whom?" "You risked that for Blue?" "What good is a ménage à trois when you have a soulmate?" JAY-Z mentions their 5-year-old daughter in their raps.
With songs like "Hold Up," "Sorry," and "Don't Hurt Yourself," Beyoncé ridiculed her husband in her most recent album, the Grammy-winning Lemonade.
On "Hold Up," Beyoncé sung, "What a wicked way to treat the girl that loves you." She then sang, "Looking at my watch, he shoulda been home / Today I regret the night I put that ring on" on "Sorry."
She then became enraged, singing on "Don't Hurt Yourself," "Who the f— do you think I is? / You ain't married to no average bitch boy." "You're going to lose your wife if you try this s— again."
On "Love Drought," Beyoncé moved toward forgiveness by acknowledging, "I know you're lying ten times out of nine / But I know you're trying nine times out of ten." She also disclosed that they had resolved the issue on "Sandcastles" and "Lemonade," singing, "And although I promised that I couldn't stay, baby / Every promise don't work out that way." "I made lemonade even though I was served lemons."
The couple's obsession with the number 4 may be referenced in the album title, 4:44. The rapper's birthday is on December 4th, while his famous wife's is on September 4th. They have identical IV tattoos and are celebrating their wedding anniversary on April 4.
