Diddy the proud daddy! Rapper's children join him on stage for his performance at 2023 MTV VMAs and celebrate with him as he's honored with the Global Icon Award

On Tuesday, September 12, Diddy received the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards' Global Icon Award with his kids by his side.

 "This is the situation.  Love triumphs.  In his long acceptance speech, 53-year-old Diddy remarked, "This is so surreal, I appreciate you all coming and just even giving me my flowers and celebrating me."  "For me, this is a dream come true.  Watching MTV as a child made me think, "Man, I wish I could be up there one day."

Diddy revealed that he didn't always see himself pursuing a career in music.  At the age of twelve, he started working as a paperboy with the goal of becoming a football player.  But after suffering a leg injury, he started dancing, gained attention on the streets of NYC, and was featured in music videos.

 He thanked composers, industry leaders, and the Bad Boy Records family, adding, "That's how I fell in love with the music industry."

Diddy performed a medley of his best-known songs with a number of his kids, including 25-year-old Christian (also known as King Combs), prior to winning his prize.  Chance, his 17-year-old eldest daughter, even accompanied Mary J. Blige in presenting Diddy with his golden moonperson.  Jessie and D'Lila, Diddy's 16-year-old twins, also went on stage with their father.

 A band or musician who has attained a remarkable degree of global success in the music industry is granted the Global Icon Award.  Since its debut at the 2021 VMAs, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters have been given the prize, which started at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

Following his hosting duties in 2005, Diddy's performance was the rapper's first appearance on the awards ceremony stage.  On Friday, September 15, the rapper will release The Love Album: Off the Grid, his first solo album since 2006.  The project includes partnerships with well-known artists like Mary J. Blige, The Weeknd, and Justin Bieber.

 Diddy is nominated for the Global Icon Award as well as Best Collaboration and Best R&B Video for "Creepin' (Remix)" with Metro Boomin, The Weeknd, and 21 Savage, and Best Collaboration and Best Hip-Hop Video for "Gotta Move On" with Bryson Tiller, Ashanti, and Yung Miami.

Diddy used a trailer for his next album to herald his comeback to solo music in August.  He questioned, "Why am I doing this?"  Do you understand what I'm saying?  especially considering my level of success.  particularly where I live.  Given how demanding and dangerous the music business is, why would I return here and be forced to perform an unnecessary task?

 He went on: "I'm asking you all to join us in the love period at that frequency.  I had to disconnect from the outside world in order to truly focus since I was completely dependent on my phone, my job, and the bullshit.

Diddy expressed his wish to have an influence with his new songs when he disclosed in 2022 that he had legally changed his middle name to Love. He declared, "I make a feeling, not an algorithm." "You want to give them a song they can sing." "Do you want streams?" they ask. "I want souls," I said. 

Diddy said he was "not leaving here until the world has changed" as he wrapped up the video.
