LeBron James gets a new tattoo to honor his Olympic experience in Paris in 2024.
After attending the games four times and serving as a flag bearer for the opening ceremony on July 26, the basketball player, who on August 10 led Team USA Basketball to its 17th gold victory, unveiled a tattoo of the Olympic rings.
James, 39, was an Olympic competitor in 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2024. He won a bronze in his first year and went on to earn gold in his next three competitions.
An Instagram reel of James receiving the tattoo on his inner forearm was posted over the weekend by tattoo artist Joaquin Ganga of the well-known Ganga Tattoo Studio in Los Angeles.
"The Olympic rings are being tattooed for the king @kingjames." I appreciate everything, mate," Ganga wrote.
Since this is James's second time in a tattoo chair, the post features multiple clips of him looking composed, cool, and collected while receiving his new tattoos. Vanessa Aurelia's serpent tattoo honoring the late Kobe Bryant, who perished in a helicopter crash on January 26, 2020, is one of his other creations.
Even though James has attended the renowned athletic event numerous times, this year's proven particularly memorable for him as he advanced in his career.
"I'm 39 years old and going into my 22nd [NBA] season," James said to reporters, including PEOPLE, after Team USA Basketball defeated France last month. "I don't know how many opportunities and moments I'm gonna get... just to be able to compete for something big and playing big games — and tonight was a big game."
James will play in the NBA for the 22nd time when the season begins on October 22. He will be the first father-son team in NBA history to play together with his 19-year-old son, Bronny James, for the Los Angeles Lakers.
