Even without her NBA star spouse, Savannah James looked stunning at the 2025 Met Gala.
The 38-year-old businesswoman made her first solo appearance at the Met Gala on Monday, May 5, just hours after her husband, NBA star LeBron James, declared he would not be attending due to an injury he suffered during a playoff game last week.
LeBron joined co-chairs Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour at this year's Met Gala as an honorary chair, according to a Vogue announcement back in October. The 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity by guest curator Monica L. Miller served as the inspiration for the exhibit itself.
In keeping with the evening's "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" theme and "Tailored for You" dress code, Savannah donned a burgundy suiting-inspired gown by Hanifa for the event. It had a full mermaid-style skirt and a pinstripe jacket with exposed boning.
Savannah's appearance on the red carpet follows LeBron, whose Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA playoffs' opening round last week, announcing on social media that he would not be attending because of an injury he suffered during the series.
"Although many people have been asking and congratulating me on my success, I regretfully won't be able to attend the Met Gala in New York tonight due to a knee injury I suffered at the end of the season! "It would be a shame to miss a momentous occasion!" he posted on X on Monday.
His "beautiful powerful Queen," LeBron stated at the time, would be on the carpet "holding the castle down as she always has done!"
LeBron, who has children with Savannah, LeBron "Bronny" James Jr., 20, Bryce Maximus, 17, and Zhuri Nova, 10, "suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain to his left knee" during his team's game on April 30, according to an earlier ESPN story. He told reporters after the game that he would need to discuss retiring with his family and "support group."
